UTV Camping
A great way to make your camping trips even more fun is to bring your UTV along! You can enjoy tearing up the trails all day long, falling asleep in your tent or RV, then repeating the next day. We've gathered up our favorite tips for making the most of your side-by-side camping trip. If you want more tips or want to explore UTVs for sale, head over to Specialty Recreation & Marine in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. We welcome all those coming from Spokane, Washington, as well!
1. Plan Your Trip
A successful trip starts with planning. One approach is to pick where you will ride your side-by-side, then look for lodging nearby. Or you can pick lodging and then find places to ride your UTV nearby. Whichever approach you take, you will want to book your lodging reservation as soon as possible. Popular sites fill up far in advance, so get your spot reserved! You can also sometimes get an early bird's discount if you book early enough.
When you research campsites, think about any amenities you need. Do you need a spot that provides electricity? How about laundry services? Make a list of your "must-haves" and use that to help guide your search.
Make sure you account for the weather when planning your trip. You don't want to make reservations at a time of year that is consistently rainy, snowy, or blisteringly hot. Since you'll be spending much of your time outside on your UTV, try to aim for a season with mild weather.
2. Get Your UTV Ready
Before your trip, you will want to give your side-by-side a thorough inspection to make sure it is ready for the trip. It'd be a shame to arrive at the trailhead only to discover a mechanical problem that could have been fixed in advance. Look over various parts of your UTV from your brakes to your lights to your tires. Make sure everything is running well and get any repairs addressed before your trip.
3. Pack Your Supplies
A UTV camping trip involves some basic supplies. You will need clothing, medications, toiletries, shelter, food, water, and supplies to build a fire. It's also wise to bring a first aid kit and a mini tool kit. These can help you handle minor emergencies or buy time in a major emergency until you can get help.
As you pack, try to use travel-sized versions of all your products. There's no need to bring a massive bottle of shampoo when you only need a few squirts. You can also use backpacking gear since these items are made to be as light and space-saving as possible.
4. Setting Up Camp
When you arrive, be intentional about where you set up your campsite. You'll get a much better night's sleep on a flat plot of land than a sloped one. You'll also want to avoid being too far from camp and risking an animal encounter. But you also want to avoid being too close to other people and get woken up all night with the lights and sounds of other campers. Try to shoot for a good balance of not too far and not too close to camp. Then you can set up your site and get ready to ride!
